Important Debit Card Information
To combat debit card fraud, East Texas Professional Credit Union uses industry leading technology to help identify and prevent suspected fraudulent debit card activity. However, occasionally it is necessary to block signature based (credit) debit card transactions in other states, foreign countries, and at various merchant locations where fraudulent activity is prevalent.

We take these preventive actions very seriously in order to protect our members’ funds. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but assure you that this action is taken to protect you and your account. If you experience difficulty using your card for a signature based transaction, please try to use the PIN based debit option using the keypad and entering your PIN number.

If you are planning to travel and anticipate using your debit card, please notify our Card Services Department during regular business hours at 903.323.1245 and we can note your account so your card use is not interrupted. You can also utilize Card Controls in the Mobile App to establish travel information. It is important you have an alternative method of payment (cash, credit card, travelers checks) for emergency situations and that contact information is up to date and on file at the Credit Union so that we may contact you when necessary.

Notice to ETPCU Debit and Credit Cardholders
The Credit Union receives compromised card lists from our card processor as merchant data breaches occur. Due to MasterCard and Visa regulations, our card processor is not allowed to disclose the identity of a compromised merchant to the Credit Union. East Texas Professional Credit Union uses a variety of methods in an attempt to determine the source of a breach, however these same regulations prevent us from disclosing this information to our cardholders. East Texas Professional Credit Union often uses krebsonsecurity.com and databreaches.net as resources to obtain merchant breach information.

ATMs with EMV Chip Technology

All ETPCU-owned ATMs provide an additional level of security in the form of EMV chip technology. EMV chip technology provides members with better protection from financial criminals.

Each chip technology-enabled ATM can process card transactions in a slightly different manner, depending on the machine manufacturer.

ATMs located in ETPCU office lobbies and drive-thru locations, as well as all ETPCU-operated ATMs located at additional offsite locations process transactions as detailed below.

  • If the card is EMV chip enabled, users are required to insert the card and leave the card in the ATM until the machine tells them to remove it. The ATM will keep the card until just before cash dispenses and the receipt is printed. The ATM display will direct the member to remove the card before the money is dispensed.
  • If the card is non-chip enabled, the ATM display will direct the user to remove the card and proceed with the transaction.
EMV chip debit and credit cards, as well as ETPCU-owned ATMs will continue to be compatible with non-chip capable devices and cards.

EMV Chip & Signature Cards

East Texas Professional Credit Union strives to provide our members with high-quality financial products and services. All ETPCU credit and debit cards have been upgraded to feature an additional level of security in the form of EMV Chip & Signature Technology.

Our credit and debit cards issued feature the traditional magnetic stripe on the back of the card and an embedded microchip on the front of the card. The embedded microchip provides unique data specific to your card and the transaction being processed every time you use it at chip-enabled terminals. The EMV chip will provide your card with added security that will make your card extremely difficult to counterfeit, and will provide you with better protection from financial criminals.

EMV Chip & Signature cards will continue to be compatible with existing non-chip capable devices. There are no additional fees for this technology, and if you travel internationally, chip technology is already used in more than 130 countries.

Apple Pay®
Apple Pay® can be used with East Texas Professional credit and debit cards. Apple Pay® transforms mobile payments to give members an easy, secure and private way to pay. Members can use Apple Pay® at participating stores with iPhone® 6s and iPhone® 6s Plus or later, and the Apple Watch® when paired with iPhone® 5 or later.

When using Apple Pay®, the card number is not stored on the device or on Apple® servers. Apple Pay® uses dual authentication by requiring both the device to be present, and biometric validation. In addition, cashiers do not see names, card numbers, or security codes, thus keeping payment information protected.
